There is a certain freedom in these summer months: the freedom to slow down, to refocus and to put things back into their proper perspective. Time ceases to be a race and becomes a space once more. A space where we can listen to what usually remains in the back of our minds.
Summer reminds us that time is not just something we fill, but also something we live in. And that the quality of our presence — to ourselves, to others, to our goals — often depends on how we navigate these moments of pause.
Slow down and let what's important emerge
This slowing down is not a luxury. It is a necessity. For it is often in these moments of pause, in these breathing spaces, that the essential questions become clear:
- What really matters to me today?
- Where have I been channelling my energy over the last few months?
- What do I want to continue, change or stop doing?
- What do I need to feel centred, present and alive again?
Summer does not provide all the answers, but it creates the conditions for them to surface. It opens up a space where we can look at ourselves with honesty, kindness and clarity. A space where we can realign ourselves before setting off again.
A summer exercise: the past-present-future reflection
Please note three things:
1. The past — “I acknowledge”
- What you have achieved or gone through over the last few months: projects, career changes…
- What has nourished, supported or inspired you
- What you would like to give thanks for or honour
The idea is not to draw up a perfect assessment, but to recognise what really mattered.
2. The present — “I’m reconnecting with myself”
Write freely:
- What your body is telling you right now: tiredness, stress, a burst of energy…
• What your energy is telling you: to take a step back, ambition, reflection…
• What you need to let go of, put aside, or give some breathing space to
Just let it come without making any judgements. Summer is fertile ground for gentle self-reflection.
3. The future — “I’m setting my course”
Choose an intention for the start of the new term. Just one. Not a goal, not a resolution: an inner guiding principle. For example:
- “Protect my energy”
- “Dare to ask for help”
- “Create more space for what nourishes me”
This intention will become your north star. You don’t need to know how to put it into practice. Summer will do its work.
And you – how will you slow down and reflect on your journey or your aspirations this summer ? And when you return, why not book an appointment so we can define new directions together?
