Why do you get up every morning? And why do you work day in, day out?... Instead of remaining passive - as we often do -  our speaker Fidèle NIZEYIMANA invited all the participants in the webinar "Goal Setting: a powerful tool to attract success and happiness" to ask themselves the right questions to define and achieve their life goals. Fidèle shared his best practices and boundless enthusiasm in a highly inspiring session.

Having goals: one of the keys to success and happiness

"Why set goals? There are many reasons," explains Fidèle Nizeyimana, "to live life to the full, to try new things, for professional development,  to make progress even if you sometimes fail. Drawing on his experiences first in Rwanda, then in China and now in France, he passes on his philosophy of life and thought to others.

What does success mean to you? Do you have things in mind that you want to achieve personally or professionally?... These are the kinds of questions Fidèle invites you to ask yourself as a starting point. A place for reflection on the world around us and on our personal trajectory. He cites American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who decided to send a man to the moon, or Martin Luther King and his famous "I have a dream" speech. It's important to have a vision and concrete, precise objectives," he explains. We're not talking about New Year's resolutions, most of which are abandoned by the following February.

Take a step-by-step approach to defining your objectives

By asking ourselves the right questions, we can simply define daily, weekly or longer-term goals. This motivates us, stimulates us and, ultimately, gives more meaning to our lives. But be careful," warns Fidèle Nizeyimana, "you mustn't be over-ambitious and instead set realistic goals with a deadline."

Write down your objective on a piece of paper (instead of keeping it in your head);

  • Set yourself a specific deadline for achieving it;
  • Make a list of everything you can do to achieve your goal;
  • Organise this list by order of priority
  • Take action without delay;
  • Do something every day to move closer to your goal.

Practical exercise to try out

Participants in the Cala Learning Hub webinar had the opportunity to try out this method for themselves and put it into practice for a few minutes. Would you like to try it yourself?

  • Think about what you want to do, become or share in terms of your health (mental or physical), your professional career, your family life and so on. And list all your goals, with no limit in terms of 1, 5 or 10 years. The list can be very long : get a promotion, start your own business, lose 3 kg, travel the world...
  • Choose the most important goals in each category, describe them in a paragraph and explain why they are so important to you. Set yourself a deadline and take action!
  • Now focus on the most important goal for the next 12 months. Plan concrete actions to achieve it every day, every week or every month... And congratulate yourself every time you reach a milestone!
